I am happy to report that my next "pet" project is cooking quite well so far.

pyStack is a stackoverflow-inspired web application done in web2py, the web application framework in my opinion in which almost everything is "pure" python. I usually write these types of applications mainly as an exercise to my mind. At work, sadly, python is considered "legacy" (This is unfortunate considering that python literally thrives in organizations such as Yahoo, google, NASA, UC Irvine, CIA, National Weather Service, to name just a few)), and it is only used to support "old" applications and not used for any new development anymore.

In any case, after work, and when my home-bound activities permit, I embark in these types of programming escapades, mostly to keep me active in this language which I really like, here's a screenshot if you are interested in following the project more closely:

I'll update this entry as the app progresses - JFS

Very happy to hear that you're developing this - look forward to seeing how it progresses.

Oh yeah, it is very much alive and kicking, I am following up the original plan (technical documentation), so even though sometimes I spend days without touching the app, picking up is relatively easy with the blueprint documentation, I will update this shortly with more information, I can put the app already on the server, it is pretty much alfa code but at least it'll give you a "feel" of it, the UI is (for now) a quick implementation, I'll look for a good UI as the project progresses.

Richard, I am running into an issue with a DAL call, there is literally no way to implement it outside of a "raw" sql call, this makes it unusable for the GAE (for now), I'll let you know where it is as soon as I put the project in mercurial or some place to grab it.

Wow, python considered legacy? So what's your coworkers' language of choice?

Hey Steve, always nice to see you around,

We are "Microsoft Gold Partner" (Whatever that entitles - I believe it means we pay MS in "gold" for their support) so yes, dot net it is, needless to say the python codebase would literally take years to switch (fortunately :)
